On the 40th anniversary of the Air India Kanishka bombing, Bob Rae, Canada’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized the importance of Canadians understanding the attack’s roots. Speaking from Cork, Ireland, where the wreckage was recovered, Rae stated that Canadians need to be aware that the bombing was planned and executed by individuals within Canada. He highlighted the event as a crucial part of Canadian history, not an external occurrence. Rae also commended Ireland’s ongoing support for the victims’ families. The bombing, which killed 329 people in 1985, was orchestrated by the Canada-based Khalistani terrorist group Babbar Khalsa. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other officials also paid tribute to the victims, emphasizing the need for zero tolerance towards terrorism.
