Following significant damage to Iranian nuclear and military facilities inflicted by Israel, and amidst US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire, Israel has agreed to a cessation of hostilities with Iran. A statement released by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office expressed gratitude to President Trump and the United States, acknowledging their ‘defensive support’ and contribution to mitigating the Iranian nuclear threat. The Israeli government has also issued a stern warning to Tehran, vowing a forceful response to any violation of the ceasefire. The statement further clarified that, in alignment with President Trump, Israel is abiding by the proposed bilateral ceasefire and that citizens should continue to adhere to IDF Home Front Command directives until full verification of the ceasefire’s observance. President Trump officially announced the ceasefire’s commencement on his ‘Truth Social’ account, declaring that the war would be considered ended after a 12-hour period. Despite the agreement, reports indicate that strikes continued from both sides following the announcement. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that military operations to counter Israeli aggression persisted until the final moments.
