Actor Aftab Shivdasani recently turned 47, and in a reflective interview, he shared insights into his life, career, and perspectives. When asked about celebrating birthdays, Shivdasani revealed he’s embraced the tradition again thanks to his wife, Nin, and daughter, Nevaeh. He cherishes the moments and the memories they create together.
Looking back at his early childhood birthdays, Shivdasani recalled family celebrations filled with streamers, balloons, music, and games. He began his acting journey at a young age, and reminisced about his early work as a child actor. When asked about the journey so far, he mentioned the 1979 Farex ad, and spoke of the landmark film ‘Mast’, which was a pivotal moment in his career. Since then, he has starred in around 50-60 films.
Shivdasani emphasized his ‘student mentality,’ constantly learning from experiences, people, and films. He mentioned how he uses various observations to improve himself. When discussing his journey, he acknowledged the ups and downs, adopting an acceptance of both sunshine and rain. He embraces the camera and filmmaking, feeling at home in front of it. Off-screen, however, he is shy and introverted. He expressed his passion for cinema and storytelling.
Speaking about the turning points, he cited meeting his wife, Nin Dusanj, as a massive change, finding his ‘home’. He also discussed the impact of fatherhood, expressing gratitude for his daughter and wife, highlighting the joys and challenges of parenting. Regarding his upcoming projects, he mentioned ‘Welcome To The Jungle,’ ‘Masti,’ and ‘Kasur 2,’ among others. He addressed the idea of a career comeback, stating that he has always prioritized quality over quantity in his work. He believes in the power of self-belief and the importance of waiting for the right opportunities. When asked about feeling shortchanged as an actor, Shivdasani stated that he focuses on his performance, and he is content with what life offers him. He also discussed the evolution of filmmaking and the impact of social media and OTT platforms.
