The Bihar government has introduced a significant relief package for sugarcane farmers in the state. A portal was launched on Tuesday by the Sugarcane Industries Department under the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme. This portal will facilitate online applications. A total of 10 crore rupees has been approved for the implementation of the Sugarcane Mechanization Scheme in the fiscal year 2025-26.
This scheme aims to reduce the cost of sugarcane cultivation for farmers, thereby increasing their net income. It will also facilitate the treatment of sugarcane seeds. Modern agricultural machinery will enable the planting of sugarcane seeds at recommended distances by scientists. The use of modern equipment is essential for controlling pest infestations and weeds.
To apply for the scheme, interested sugarcane farmers in the state can apply online using their 13-digit DBT number through the departmental Cane Care portal: https://ccs.bihar.gov.in or https://sugarcanemech.bihar.gov.in. Farmers can receive subsidies on machinery ranging from field preparation to sugarcane harvesting.
A farmer can receive subsidies on a maximum of three agricultural machines. Separate applications can be made for each machine, up to a maximum of three. A total of 33 machines are included in the list for individual farmers. There is a provision for three groups for the establishment of machinery banks. Applicants selected in the randomization (online lottery) will be able to purchase the machine by paying the remaining amount (farmer’s share) online after deducting the subsidy amount from the listed machine vendor within 14 days of receiving the approval letter.
