The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced that its founder, Lalu Prasad Yadav, has been re-elected as the party’s national president. Election officer Ramchandra Purve confirmed that Yadav was the only candidate to file a nomination, which was found valid. The formal announcement will be made on July 5th during the party’s national council meeting, where Yadav will also be presented with the certificate of election. Meanwhile, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar criticized the RJD, claiming Yadav’s re-election proves that the 28-year-old party is controlled by a single family. Janata Dal United (JDU) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad accused RJD’s leader’s son, Tejashwi Yadav, of lacking ethical standards. Deputy Chief Minister and former state BJP president Samrat Chaudhary stated that with Yadav’s 13th term as president, the RJD has established a monarchy, caring only for its own family and not for Dalits, backward classes, and upper castes.
