Former Indian captain and current BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly, has expressed his belief that Virat Kohli’s experience would have been beneficial for the Indian team in the recent Test series against England. Kohli, who recently retired from Test cricket, was missed by Ganguly, who feels that the star batsman could have added significant runs to the team’s total. Ganguly had previously mentioned his surprise at Kohli’s retirement, citing his expectation that Kohli’s fitness would allow him to continue playing. Reflecting on the ongoing series, Ganguly stated that Kohli would have scored runs had he been part of the squad in England.
Ganguly remarked, “I would say it’s very irrelevant. My terms, someone else’s terms. As a player, you understand. As a player everyone understands where he stands at the moment. Just look at Virat. Everybody says why. I know he didn’t have the best five years in Test cricket but champions like him rediscover. And I guarantee that if he was on this tour of England, he would have scored runs. But he felt it was time to go.”
Virat Kohli’s Test career is highlighted by his impressive statistics. He has played 123 Test innings, scoring 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 and a strike rate of 55.57. His highest score of 254 not out showcases his ability to convert starts into substantial scores. Kohli has 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries to his name, solidifying his place among India’s top batsmen and demonstrating his prowess against high-quality English seam attacks.
