As the world marks the 40th anniversary of the Air India Kanishka bombing, which claimed 329 lives in 1985, Canada has revealed the identity of ‘Mr. X,’ a mysterious figure linked to the tragedy. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) played a crucial role in solving this significant part of the case. The identification of ‘Mr. X’ marks a major breakthrough, as he remained unidentified for decades following the devastating bombing on June 23, 1985. The question remains: what happened to ‘Mr. X’? Was he alive when the identification was made? RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul confirmed Mr. X’s death at a memorial event, although he did not disclose his name, citing privacy laws. The investigation revealed that ‘Mr. X’ had traveled to Duncan, British Columbia, on June 4, 1985, with Talwinder Singh Parmar, the alleged mastermind of the bombing, and Inderjit Singh Reyat, who was later convicted for making and placing the bombs. They tested a bomb in a forest, an event witnessed but misinterpreted by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), a misstep that has remained a point of contention. The bombing of Air India Flight 182, which departed from Montreal en route to Mumbai with a stopover in London, was a horrific act of terrorism that killed all 329 people on board, most of whom were Canadians of Indian descent.
